Brian and I got the wood scraps from the front path to the door moved into the back so he could cut them down to a size the garbage collectors with take. Then Nicki and I headed out to have lunch and get to the Decatur Winefest 2011.

We stopped in at a Sushi place and had a couple of rolls and some miso soup, then we got back out into the slightly chilly afternoon and the long line into the festival. Fernando was suppose to show up as well but didn’t get there until well after 3pm with only about 45 minutes left, WTF, I feel terrible that he didn’t show up because of her. Lots of women my age and around it should have taken more photos but didn’t want to make Nicki feel funny at all. Took some of her and around a bit though. Talked to a few gals, lot of pairs of women. I did meet a bunch of Gators since I had my Florida hoodie on. The food lines were WAY to long again.

Decatur 2011

Decatur 2011

@ Taco Mac I met up with Dan and Cathy for about 10 minutes and they had to leave, *frown* but then not long after a couple of twenty somethings sat next to me and all was good again. Christie and Amy were really fun, two UGA fans cheering for Arkansas to beat USC. They were drinking shots for every USC score, they only had two and then a few blue moons but they were fun and possibly drunker than they needed to be. They did say they weren’t going to be driving so that’s good. There was also this REALLY drunk gal about my age or so, a Alabama fan who was a bit tipsy as well, told me I had nice eyes which is always nice to hear. She grabbed my hand and smashed it to her breasts asking if I would cheer for Alabama, nope sorry.

Had a small rah-rah session with Kate at the hostess desk about Florida and felt funny that I wasn’t wearing any Florida gear. We beat Vandy 21-26 but I heard it wasn’t pretty.

Watched the movie Driving Angry, with Nicholas Cage and some really HOT gal run around and finally kill all the bad guys who are Devil worshipers/Cult group.

Found Food: Cauliflower Mushroom
Cauliflower Mushroom

This is interesting since about a month ago I found this mushroom and took a photo of it not knowing what it was, now I do. It disappeared rather quickly and maybe someone picked it up or possibly an animal such as a deer ate it. I couldn’t see myself eating something like this I’ve just picked off the ground. I have eaten some wild blackberries that grow around the greenway though, but it sometimes worries me and I don’t eat too many at a time.

Fresh Tomato Shrimp Pasta

By: Lisa Nichols
“Fresh tomatoes and spinach, fresh herbs, and fresh mozzarella combine with shrimp and fettuccine for an easy summer dinner.”

Ingredients

8 ounces dry fettuccine pasta
3 cloves garlic
1/2 sweet onion, cut into wedges
3 tablespoons fresh oregano leaves
4 tablespoons olive oil
4 medium tomatoes, chopped
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup spinach leaves
1 pound cooked shrimp – peeled and deveined
8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, diced

Directions
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the pasta, and cook for 8 minutes, or until tender. Drain.

In the container of a food processor, combine the garlic, onion and oregano. Pulse until finely chopped. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion mixture; cook and stir until fragrant and almost golden. Mix in the tomatoes, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes while the pasta is cooking, stirring occasionally.

Mix in spinach until it wilts, then just before the pasta is done, stir in the shrimp. Cook until heated through. Toss with pasta in a large serving bowl, and mix in mozzarella cheese.

For the last week my mid-lower back on the right side has been sore, in my kidney area which kind-of worries me. It only hurts when I get up from sitting at the computer at work and when bending forward.

Also, I’ve had some bites or something all over my waistband/legs for about the last 2-3 weeks. They itch like crazy and almost feel like poison ivy or something like that. I scratch and they scab up but almost always come back. My waistline and the joint at my knees seem to be center locations. It may be some-sort-of-bites I think. What do bed-bug bites look like?

Long Creek Falls

After work Fernando and I went over to the Happy Hour over at the Sage Tavern on Haynes Bridge. I think we have been there before and aside for a few women who came in pairs, one pair at bar and the other at a small table the place was mostly guys. I know I’m a fud so there was no way I was staying until 10pm for the “start” of Ladies Night so we just had a few Tapas and a couple of 420s leaving about 6:30. The bartender, Maria, was really cute, average thicker build about 5’5″ I’d say with longer dark brown hair, very nice. The ages around the place were in the late 30’s to late 50’s I’d say. I had several good Tapas although the cost a bit more $$$ than if I had just bought a dinner, lump crab stuffed mushroom caps and pancetta wrapped twin jumbo shrimp @ about $13.

Came straight on home but almost detoured to either Hooters or Taco Mac but decided to not spend the $$$$.

Nicki paid for her school today, so she is enrolled again, hopefully she will have her AA soon and in about another 2 years her Bachelors.

Oh, and updated the iPhone and iPad2 today with the latest software, not iOS5 yet though.

Got this from: Taste and Tell: Corn-Sausage Chowder

Corn-Sausage Chowder

adapted from Better Homes and Gardens – Our Best Recipes

Makes 6 servings

1 lb. bulk pork sausage
2 medium onions, coarsely chopped
3 cups potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
2 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 15 1/4-ounce can whole kernel corn, drained
1 14 3/4-ounce can cream-style corn
1 12-ounce can evaporated milk

In a 4- to 5-quart Dutch oven, cook sausage and onion until sausage is browned and cooked through. Drain well.

Stir in potatoes, broth, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Stir in both cans of corn and evaporated milk. Cook until warmed through.

Garnish with chives if desired.

The dubbel was smooth with a sweet malty flavor. You could taste the alcohol a bit during but it smoothed out on the finish. The aroma was all malt and molasses.

Here’s a photo of the Koningshoeven Trappist Ale glass I got from the Porter Beer Bar last night. I also stuffed myself on a Chicken Schnizel Sandwich and fries. It was a good evening, wish I fit into the crowd in Little Five Points a bit better.

Their description of the event:

“So La Trappe is one of seven Trappist breweries, and the only outside of Belgium. La Trappe has been called Koningshoevn in the US for a few years now due to a trademark dispute, but now it’s finally going back to La Trappe. La Trappe makes the traditional double, triple and quadruple, but also Tilburg Dutch Brown. Tilburg is one of my favorite browns, only made more tasty by the Hieronymus Bosch drawing of a bird eating a man from his triptic of Earth, Heaven and Hell on the lable. In celebration of the return of La Trappe we are having a last hurrah of Koningshoevn goblet night. Limited edition. Last chance, hopefully we’ll see you tonight!”

Pasta with Sausage, Artichokes and Sun-Dried Tomatoes
adapted from Confections of a Foodie Bride (who scaled it from Giada’s Family Dinners)

serves 4

total time:  approximately 25 minutes

1/2 cup drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes, sliced, 2 tablespoons of oil reserved
1/2 pound Italian sausage
8 oz. artichoke hearts, quartered
2 large cloves garlic, minced
1 1/4 cup chicken broth
8 oz. short cut pasta
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley, chopped
8 oz. mozzarella, cubed
salt and freshly ground pepper

Heat the oil reserved from the tomatoes in a heavy large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the sausages and cook until brown, breaking up the meat into bite-size pieces with a fork, about 8 minutes. Transfer the sausage to a bowl. Add the artichokes and garlic to the same skillet, and saute over medium heat until the garlic is tender, about 2 minutes. Add the broth and sun-dried tomatoes. Boil over medium-high heat until the sauce reduces slightly, stirring occasionally, about 8 minutes.

Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta in boiling water until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring often, about 8 minutes. Drain the pasta (do not rinse). Add the pasta, sausage, Parmesan, basil, and parsley to the artichoke mixture. Toss until the sauce is almost absorbed by the pasta. Stir in the mozzarella. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Serve, passing the additional Parmesan cheese alongside.

I got a new spin on the issue I was working on, seems that maybe I can just add a few things into a table used to indirectly assign channels by the Profile assignments and maybe then assign the channels in a Channel Set indirectly to the profiles the Channel Set is directly assigned to.

I ended up stopping in at the Summits in Cumming,GA again in order to pick up a Negra Modelo glass, the beer was basically just OK but the glass is cool. Also had an order of chicken quesadilla and although I tried to be able to talk with the very cute brunette there I instead ended up with the oddball dude.

The trek across on Hwy 20 wasn’t so bad this evening, I got home in plenty of time to print the photos from Hooter’s Halloween for Patty and also got a little nap in before heading over to Trivia.

We didn’t win and I was instrumental in missing some questions, I really thought I was correct, sorry guys. I found out that one of the Hooters Gals were arrested early in the morning on the 2nd, some altercation with a boyfriend, they found a fake ID so she got in more trouble than necessary, she also looked really tired in the photo, why would someone look tired like that when they are only 19 years old? JG

The drive home was nice and sunny, had decided to go ahead to Freeman Mill to check out the falls after the rain we had but then decided against it and instead went shopping for dinner.

Made up a new recipe I saw on FoodWishes.com, a spicy Italian sausage pasta dish. It was really good and I know I’ll be doing that again. Well, I guess I should wait until I’ve had it for lunch the next several days and dinner tomorrow before I state that, maybe I’ll get sick of it by then.

Watched a bit of TV, namely A Clockwork Orange, very odd and slightly disturbing movie. Thought it was done in the 60’s but it was 1971, close.

Had the Samuel Smith’s Winter Warmer Ale (2009) OK, but not all that wonderful IMHO.

Went to the Kroger and picked up a few more things for the “cookout”, I really need to do a cookout in a big way sometime soon.

Hadn’t realized it but the trash pickup occurred this morning, even the recycling. I’m glad Brian brought out the trash can and had it in front of the garage, otherwise they wouldn’t have taken it at all. I woke up about 7am and got up to put the recycling out although they didn’t do that until much later. Did a walk around the yard, I need to cut back the bushes on the side of the house and the azaleas on the other side as well.

Went out to the pool about 1pm, met the pool manager a cute blond quite talkative actually, or maybe she was just bored 🙂 The sun kept going in and out and then it started to drizzle, almost a mist actually. I went out and put up the top on the car, since it wasn’t stopping even though the sun was continuing to shine even with the drizzle. Finally, about 2:20 the rain stopped and the sun came out. I headed on back home to cook out after 3.

Everyone bailed on us for the cookout, I wanted only a small get together but this was a bit much. Fired up the grill, finished the food and had a feast. The guacamole was great, the veggies actually good for me and I watched the latest episode of “V”. Had a nice dinner with the brother.

My parents should be in town on Tuesday or Wednesday so I canceled on Becky, I’m definitely NOT feeling the love there, whatever we did have there has basically just withered away a real shame.

Ended up over at the Taco Mac by the mall for a beer, had the Southern Tier Inequity India Black Ale, very yummy and finished my 175th beer on Taco Mac list 2, now I’ve got my $20 gift card and I’ll be retiring that list.

Here is the beer I had the night before after getting back from the Olde Towne Tavern with the Rogers gang.

JailHouse Brewing Co.
Beer So Good…It Should Be Outlawed

Started the day by getting up, thats about all. Well I did do some things around the yard and decided I need to get something done about the weeds in the front.

Finally Brian and I got going and first stopped in for some lunch at the Mellow Mushroom, he went a bit wild, maybe being a bit too much for little ole Lauryn, but I was happy to get him out of the house. He has been staying in too much due to the job thing (lack of one). We had our “normal” and even though I had a beer he didn’t. We figured we would be a bit late for the 2pm start of the tours, not that we really needed to worry about it, it didn’t matter when we arrived so long as if was after 2 and before 6pm.

We arrived there at almost exactly 2pm drove past the place several times and finally arrived realizing that the road (Cherry) was a one way only street. The downtown of Hampton, GA is revitalizing and they even had some interesting “lofts” for sale/rent at about $100K for a 1 bed 1.5 bath. The Jailhouse Brewing Company is in a cool building, actually has jailbars on the windows. The beers were asouse and the owners even better. Glen, the brewmaster is a storehouse of knowledge about brewing and beer and will tell you anything you want to know. Heard some interesting plans for the future as far as beers from JailHouse and look forward to seeing the beers at other places I go. I’ve read on there site that they will be at the East Atlanta Beer Festival, the Great Decatur Beer Festival, and the Hotober Beer Fest during the summer, I really look forward to seeing them.

I went out to Taco Mac for dinner and a few beers, got to see Monica (Jason’s g-friend) for a bit and also chatted to this dude who was from Ohio. At the end of the evening a brunette in a Budweiser shirt stopped in for a few bud light limes and to see the end of the NASCAR race, we talked for awhile (Allison) but I couldn’t really get past her country redneck feel, I really need to more down closer inside the perimeter.
