Photoshop-Lightroom

Bit warmer this morning as well. Sun peeked out in the afternoon and the wind picked up as well.

Got up a bit slower than normal since I had the third beer and I had also gotten to bed past 11pm.

Messed with LinkedIN for a bit, updating some connections from the old days of NCR.

PhotoSmith is in it’s final stages, only about a month behind schedule, a bit more actually. I’ve been looking forward to this release for about 6 months so the extra month seems to have made this DRAGGGGGGGGG on. I predict that they may have it out by the beginning of May maybe closer to the mid-May timeframe. I will hope for that and therefore if it comes out earlier I’ll be ecstatic.

Went out for a small walk on the Big Creek Greenway about 12:30pm it was mostly overcast still but the sun popped out a few times and I even broke a sweat. A few bugs were out, the same ladybug that was on the bridge yesterday and then a few dragonflies and damselflies. The wind began to pick up a bit after I got back into the office.

Off to the BOTM @ Taco Mac after work. I usually go to the Johns Creek store and today was no different. They are premiering the newest Terrapin beer, the Easy Rider which is a Pale Ale brewed to be a bit lower gravity, ie. about 4.5 ABV. I first stopped in at Pop’s and picked up a couple of Great Divide beers, the 18th Anniversary IPA and a Oak Aged Yeti Stout. The dude, John who had his hip replaced a while back was there again and we talked quite a bit. No one else of interest was there. Had the 2011 Red Brick Vanilla Gorilla before the Easy Rider. Then I drove down to the Tilted Kilt on the way home and had a Drafty Kilt, TiffanyG and Jizzille were there along with Andy what’s his name with the ponytail. I remember now, his last name is pronounced “ki-yay” as in yippie ki-yay (motherfucker!).

Rainy and warm, only 59 when I woke up, started the day with shorts and a hoodie.

Brian called in the morning to tell me he had a small fender bender, but no fenders were bent. The lady who hit him in the rear just barely tapped him and neither saw any damage so they exchanged info and went along their way after the police got there.

PhotoSmith, a cool iPad program for importing photos and doing a bit before syncing with Lightroom, is delayed again. Looks like it’s going to be about a month behind schedule at a minimum. With a small Agile team they should be able to have added a few things and then released instead of holding so long, well at least in theory they should have been. I’m just a bit excited to get my hands on something that seems to be exactly what I was looking for to begin with when I purchased it about a year ago. I’m thankful they are giving v1 users a free upgrade, I know I would buy it anyway so I guess I shouldn’t be so impatient.

Due to my contact lens purchase I’ve messed up my finances for the beginning of the month, now I’ve taken out over $200 out of savings and need another $50 to $100 today to fill up the tank and then allow myself to have some fun on Wednesday @ Parma Trivia. Just about the same amount of money I spent on my contacts. I wish I had at least tried to use the Flex Spending Debit Card before using my Bank Debit. 🙁

I only weighed 212 this morning, not sure if I really am loosing weight or if I just didn’t eat well yesterday. I’ve also been a bit below the weather, a bit of back and forth from the bathroom today, and tummy not feeling well. I’ve only ate a McD’s breakfast boritto, two pears and some Tostitos corn chips.

Texted KimO about meeting up for some dinner tonight over at the Los Arcos, dinner a bit later than I would do but cool enough. Got the car washed and then had a beer over at the Shroom before, went home messed with the car some more and then went over to meet her. She was already there, and we sat down. I felt like I hold the conversation, not very give & take imo. They didn’t have Riesling, damn, the second place to be out of it, and then they didn’t have white zif either. I had suggested that we head over to the Shroom for another drink, she said something about messing up her routine or something on that order if she stayed up late, instead we said goodbye, with a hug outside near her car, maybe I should have tried a bit of something more, nothing too much but Damn It! I want a bit more from the relationship than friends, maybe some benefits but I really do want a true relationship. I’m really not sure if she is open to more or not, mostly I believe NOT.

Home to an empty house, just the way I like it and it lasted all of 1 hour, eat some left-over steak and some chips then played on the computer for a bit. Nicki and the boy came in and quickly turned the TV on to some SHIT, too good to be true.

Went out to Parma, tried to get Autumn to go out as well but she didn’t, sent a message about waiting until she gets her place (condo) I guess maybe but I don’t really see it getting better. I know her son is still little so I’m not sure how this is going to play out. Babysitters? It would work but I just don’t know. I do know I’d love to spend more time with her. We did GREAT at Trivia, not me, I just helped a little but not much. Lauren Shep & Brad were there along with Bill, the ever present Sam, Brett (without Kim now) and Russell. LaurenS (cute waitress with tatto on her left shoulder) was there with lots of touchy feely. I had a couple of Happy Endings and a Fat Tire, should have gotten the Fat Tire last so I could have gotten the glass. We did get first today and they acted like they had over $60 for next week, I should make sure I show up.

Nicki reminded me that we have Megan’s Wedding coming up in about 3 weeks, on the 3rd of March, that also means that I need to look into a wedding gift as well. Need to take off the Friday before since Nicki said that Megan wants to do photos of the wedding party on Friday in a park somewhere.

I seriously think this has become a real problem. You see before and after photos in Photography Mags where they remove every freckle off a model and give them FAKE looking skin and pat themselves on the back for it. To me it doesn’t even look like the person anymore.

Basic Infrared Photoshop Techniques Tutorial & IR Instructions

Standard Infrared Filter

The Standard IR filter is our most popular choice as it’s also the filter most frequently used as a threaded lens filter. It has a 50% pass frequency of 720nm and is equivalent to the Wratten  89B gelatin filter.

Since this filter also transmits a little bit of the visible deep red light the resulting image has a bit of color in it. With proper adjustment in Photoshop you can achieve the very popular blue sky effect.

Version 1.1 is available now

Got it downloaded as well as the Lightroom version 3.5 yesterday.  They both were out earlier but I wasn’t paying much attention.  Photosmith still doesn’t have the mass tag and IPTC metadata tagging that I want.  Just not very useful for a BUNCH of photos yet.  OK for choosing a limited number and then tagging them but no way to store presets that will but ALL copyright and meta info into many files quickly.

— New Features —
‱ iOS 5.0 compatibility (at least as of beta 7, they’ve changed it every beta)
‱ Added automatic detection if there are problem images that turns off auto importing to prevent repeated crashes–gives you the chance to find the problem image and keep using the app
‱ Added setting to manually import photos on demand instead every time the app is opened
‱ Added setting to skip pre-generation of preview images
‱ Added setting to include iTunes synced albums in Photosmith
‱ Added RAF and NRW raw file support
‱ Added XMP export option to Dropbox (provides rudimentary support for non-Lightroom asset managers)
‱ Added automatic backups of the core database and a manual recovery option in case of data loss
‱ Added ability to enable app logging for support purposes
‱ Added baseline sync engine support for upcoming reverse sync functionality
‱ Added functionality to mark items as Rejected in Copy Name, for advanced sync images

— Bug Fixes & Other Improvements —
‱ Fixed rotation of photos to all Send To destinations
‱ Improved file transfer speed and progress reporting during Lightroom Sync
‱ Now able to iOS pregenerated thumbnails under iOS 5.0+ (import speed improvement)
‱ Fixed sharing selected images now uses the sort order instead of random order
‱ Fixed a regression from the previous version where fast previews weren’t used in Loupe & Fullscreen views
‱ Fixed bug where Send To from the Last Imported collection always sent all images instead of only selected ones
‱ Fixed bug where user collections would sometimes show images that had been deleted from the iPad
‱ Switching collections in Grid view now 60% faster
‱ Speed optimizations to startup – particularly for users with a large number of images on their iPad
‱ Fixed bug where large user collections wouldn’t sync

Photosmith, is out as of April, 26 2011

Lightroom lite for iPad? It’s $17.99 USD, I may have found a reason to get an iPad2.

By Sean McCormack … Topics News > New Products & Announcements Techniques > Software

“For the longest time Lightroom users with an iPad have wished for some kind of a ‘Lightroom Lite’ app. Of course the iPad is quite limited in memory terms, and CPU for that matter. But that still doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a version that let you import images in the field, tag them, rate them, and do a bit of general management work. Adobe have been busy with iPad apps like Ideas and even a version of Photoshop. But no hint of anything Lightroom like.

In the meantime Photosmith has come to fruition. Think of it as a slice of Lightroom Library and you get a feel for the app. Obviously it’s a lot more pared down, but it’s eminently useful none the less. You can access all the images imported onto the device via the Camera Connection Kit, (or similar third party device), and via the ‘Saved Photos’ and ‘Camera Roll’ album (no videos though).

As to getting photos (and metadata) out, you simply download the Photosmith plugin from http://blog.photosmithapp.com/index.php/plugin/ and install it via the Plug-In Manager. Bear in mind Photosmith must be running at all times during sync, a limitation created by Apple. You can’t switch to another app either.”

135mm cameras in my life:

Argus C3 (1975?) Photo

My grandpa on my mother’s side gave me this when I was expressing an interest in photography.  He had purchased it a long time ago, along with all kinds of lenses and things.  It was in excellent condition at the time around 1975 or so.  Had lots of filters and such as well, ended up giving it to Brian the younger brother who lost it somewhere along the way.  I feel bad that I didn’t hang on to it myself.

Minolta SRT-201 (1976?) Photo

No longer have this camera, bought it about 1978 I think.  I was in High School still and got this along with a 55mm lens as a kit from Sears I believe.  Had no idea what camera to get and just picked a kit out of the catalog when I had the money to buy it.  I think it was around $250.

Minolta X-700 (1981?) Photo

Bought this while in College I think, from a shop in the Mall in Gainesville.  I may have done this after I graduated, I’m really not sure.

Nikon D100 (12/17/2002)

My first digital 35mm camera, I had been waiting for a long time and ended up buying it at a shop in Atlanta along with a older/used 35-85 push-pull zoom lens.  I think I paid about $1999 for it?

Nikon D200 (01/29/2006)

Bought about January 2006.  but didn’t get until almost February I think.  Main reason for upgrade was larger resolution.  Sold D100 to my brother Brian.  Bought from Adorama since B&H couldn’t get the camera fast enough.  I also got the kit with the camera since it was faster as well.

Nikon D700 (01/26/2010)

Bought this at the end of 2010, mostly for the full frame so I could utilize my wide angle lenses better.
