A little fungi

Up rather early for a vacation and while Mom and Dad went out to thier Archades I went out back and took some photos of Mom’s flowers and some butterflies flying about. Started to get rather warm by about 11am and by about 2pm it was raining, a good sold rain that they really needed.

Went to the World of Beer place over in Viera and got a sixpack of 12’s and a 750. The six consisted of two Cigar City beers, Maduro Brown Ale and an Oak Aged Jai Alai IPA, An Avery Samali, two BrewDog beers and a Dogfish Head World Wide Stout. Drank the White Oak IPA this evening.

We then watched a bunch of the Casey Anthony trial that Dad had Tivoed. It’s a circus and real life trials are riddled with studdering witnesses, as well as a bunch of objections and silly little word games. I think being a lawyer is all about just confusing jurers and not presenting any facts. I’m believing that Casey did kill her daughter, more likely by accident or neglect and is just trying to cover it up.

Went out to Dinner with Shawn and Gail over to the Long Doggers, very cute gals on the staff there, the tuna sandwich I had was good and other than the cold sweet potato fries everything was really good. Mom had a burger, Dad the ribs, Gail a burger and Shawn fish and chips, they had waffle fries which made me think of Chickfila.

Home and more Casey Anthony on the TV and some conversations with the parental units.

Lightroom lite for iPad? It’s $17.99 USD, I may have found a reason to get an iPad2.

By Sean McCormack … Topics News > New Products & Announcements Techniques > Software

“For the longest time Lightroom users with an iPad have wished for some kind of a ‘Lightroom Lite’ app. Of course the iPad is quite limited in memory terms, and CPU for that matter. But that still doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a version that let you import images in the field, tag them, rate them, and do a bit of general management work. Adobe have been busy with iPad apps like Ideas and even a version of Photoshop. But no hint of anything Lightroom like.

In the meantime Photosmith has come to fruition. Think of it as a slice of Lightroom Library and you get a feel for the app. Obviously it’s a lot more pared down, but it’s eminently useful none the less. You can access all the images imported onto the device via the Camera Connection Kit, (or similar third party device), and via the ‘Saved Photos’ and ‘Camera Roll’ album (no videos though).

As to getting photos (and metadata) out, you simply download the Photosmith plugin from http://blog.photosmithapp.com/index.php/plugin/ and install it via the Plug-In Manager. Bear in mind Photosmith must be running at all times during sync, a limitation created by Apple. You can’t switch to another app either.”

Take the Tour of Photosmith

Got up a bit earlier today, cold outside, almost under 40 I think. It’s cold downstairs since I put on the AC instead of the Heat last week. Turned on the heat and watched the end of Skyline that I had started last night but just couldn’t finish.

Nicki got up and then went out to go to the store.

I then played upstairs with photos for awhile and Brian came up asking about maybe going to lunch somewhere, suggested the Kilted Kilt that just opened up by the Mall.

Had some lunch there but TOTALLY forgot about the 12:30 before you can buy a beer rule. Stupid Georgia and the liquor laws here. Cute Kilt Girl, light auburn hair and some really nice freckles on her midriff. Brian was his regular somewhat fault finding self. Let the owner/manager know that some of the girls don’t look good in the outfit, mmmmm. OK, thanks. I love him but sometimes he makes me want to crawl under something and disappear. It was fine that he say it to me but….

We then stopped in at the T-Mac for a beer since the Kilt was out of Guinness, what? an Irish bar out of Guinness? Just not right! I had the Victory Heartland Pale Ale and he the Ommegang Chocolate Indulgance, I only have 11 more credits to get my Dean and the stein. Maybe I’ll drink the Schlitz Gusto for the 750th beer.

Stayed home the rest of the day, just messed with some StopShot photos with a glass of water and some dice. I also messed on the Interwebs and waited for a text I didn’t get. I figured that Bill&Suzy didn’t really want me over but I was being polite and would rather get to know them better. I’m really not into the third wheel stuff as much as I seem to get into it. It would have been cool watching them do the beer brewing, it would have been cool.

Got to work this morning, going through my e-mail on the iPhone an noticed my Federal tax return has hit the bank. Now to pay off some credit cards and my car. I also think I’ll be investing into a new computer with Windows 7. Need to step up to a 64 bit operating system at home.

Got the Girl Scout cookies I ordered last month, immediately ate a half a box of Lemon Cremes.

Ordered my tickets to the Brew Your Cask Off Festival next weekend. I’ve missed the other beerfest activities so far this year and since I hadn’t gotten to the one last year (the first?) I decided I would make it to this one. I said tickets but I mean ticket (1), I have bought an extra in the past but who am I kidding here? I’ll buy that second ticket when I know I have someone who wants to accompany me from now on.

Came home and then cooked some dinner, pasta and clam sauce, with garlic.

Off to trivia and won 3rd, the regular gang, Kayla, LaurenDe, Kimberly, and Andge were about. Also the very quiet JessicaK and the very HOT brunette (tall- Chelsea – who’s mom tried to get a job @ Hooters as well) with the half shirt. They’ve had 420 since yesterday, wonderful.

Set up the camera just before I took off for trivia, had over 1000 photos waiting on the card when I brought the camera in. Mostly cloudy all evening so not many stars in the timelapse but it still may make a cool video we’ll just have to see. Downloading as I type and now to bed.

On Saturday I had stopped in at Showcase Photo off of Cheshire Bridge Rd. and checked out some photography stuff. Found a few New Domke bags that I liked, small ones that will hold basically a few lenses or maybe a flash along with smaller items. Something to carry around when I don’t want a larger bag to hold a camera as well.

They also had the 190 Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod legs I’d love to have for times I go on a plane to places for photography. My current legs are a bit heavier and too long to get into a carry-on bag.

After stopping in at the T-Mac of Suwanee and having a BOTM, Terrapin Pumpkinfest, and stopping in at the Fresh Market for some groceries and some sushi I began setting up for more weak astrophotography.

I got the scope setup rather quickly this time, but I spent more time than usual doing the alignment. The Polar Alignment went rather quickly (not doing drift alignment due to time) I was having trouble using the 12.5mm illuminated eyepiece since it had too much magnification.

The next issue I had was focusing. I continued to only be able to focus manually (without the use of the cover Brian had). He told me I would have to use photos to focus due to the limited light in the camera’s viewfinder, I’ll try it again tomorrow.

Took quick shots of M31 again a larger series, then M52, M27, M56, M71 and finally M57. Tried to do M20 and M92 but they were behind the house and trees toward the west and south.

Need to try them earlier in the evening tomorrow and use the light pollution filter as well.

This little black rat snake was just hanging around in the Big Creek Greenway, amazing that I saw him at all.

Got home and cooked up some pasta with red clam sauce, took a little creative liberty with this and added more capers (finished off the small jar) and then added heavy cream instead of the wine (needed to use up the heavy cream). Tasted really good.

Watched some of the Caprica pilot and then began setting up the CG-5 Equatorial Mount for viewing/ imaging tonight.

The neighbors received a new (old) Jag via very large car carrier. Talked with Patty and her oldest daughter, not Clair but … damn forget her name now. She will be getting the old car now they have a new one. The Jag will be needing some work before it’s drivable from what I saw (may be a totaled car but looked in good condition)

Finally it got dark enough to see Polaris and I tried with a lot of trouble to finally get the mount somewhat polar aligned. Didn’t bother doing a precise alignment since I wasn’t all that worried about it. I was trying to get some shots of the comet Hartley (103P) but didn’t end up getting anything that I thought was it. Instead I imaged quickly a few of the Messier objects in the sky I could see.

namely: M39, M33, M34, M15, M76, M31, M30, M2, M73, M72, M75, M11 and M103

I wouldn’t mind a little setup like this, from Joe McNally:

“I use the Gitzo GT-5560SGT tripod, and mount the Manfrotto Accessory Arm 3153B to it, and then the Gitzo G065 Laptop Platform to that. Couple that up with a ball head such as the Manfrotto 468MG, and you be cooking. I keep the platform at eyeball height so I don’t have to stoop to see the computer. I’m tethered via Nikon Camera Control Pro 2 and a USB 2.0 cable with an extension. Everything is taped down, cause I’m excitable and accident prone. It works real well as a location rig.”
