The Florida state senate has dealt a damaging blow to the craft brewers of Florida. Today, The Senate voted 30-10 to restrict the amount of packaged beer breweries can sell directly to customers. Obviously, craft breweries opposed this law. Currently, there is no limit on how much beer a brewery can directly sell to customers in the state.

The bill (SB 1714) prohibits brewers who produce more than 2,000 kegs of beer a year to sell directly to customers. It requires them to sell to a distributor which raises the cost of the final product. The loss of direct sales would come at a loss to some craft breweries in the neighborhood of $300,000 to $500,000 dollars or more.

Cigar City Brewing’s Joey Redner has been outspoken against the bill, stating that the bill would stifle brewery growth, and even put some small craft breweries under.

Who is behind the bill? Big money donors, lobbyists with Anheuser-Busch InBev who want to protect the 3-tier system. Mitch Rubin, a lobbyist for A-B has stated publicly that he is for draft beer and growler sales at breweries, but is against bottle, can, and keg sales.

sunnyhazyClear but hazy sky, sun was out in am but still cooler and in the upper 50’s.

Bought the new upgrade to VMWare Fusion 6 for MacBook, so I could do stuff on Windows on my macbook, only $46 so not all that bad.

Went out on the trail today about noon, the pollen was and still is KILLING me, sinuses are aching, throat sore, coughing and my eyes are watering.

Stopped in at Hooters and then quickly to the Shroom, I did a little to much tonight. Dude @ the bar, someone in Education I think, tried to strike up a conversation to bitch about the new gun law signed by the governor relaxing some gun regulations. I guess he wasn’t expecting someone to be for it. I tried to explain why it wasn’t a bad thing but he figures that if people have guns they will always just kill for no reason. Got to chat and flirt with Kelli most of the evening, watching some hockey on the TV. Stopped over @ the Shroom for a Goose Island IPA and chatted with them for a bit, Madison, Margret or was it Rebbeca? Sahil was managing and the dude John? I forget his name was there. Talked abou the gun legislation and shouldn’t have, I think I pissed off Sahil, since I was kind of saying it would make more since to rob the place if no guns were allowed.

Today the Governor of GA signed a bill that will allow gun owners to carry weapons in bars, some schools, government buildings and churches. Opponents call it the gun everywhere bill but truly only allows it in bars and government buildings where there is no security setup and churches can decide if they want to allow people to carry, school boards can allow employees to carry if they want. It’s not a free for all.

Got home and crashed, falling right to sleep.

Rainpartly cloudySunny in the am, getting cloudier as the morning progressed. Finally about noon the rain came, just a light sprinkle but it thwarted any walk for me.

I’ve been wondering about the Homeowner’s Association and if we are going to have a pool this summer. I have to admit even though I didn’t get to the pool last year at all I will be upset if my fees are not reimbursed if they do not open it up.

Out to lunch and it was raining and I had planned on hitting the trail after lunch. Boo, I had Burger King and was again reminded by my digestive system why I don’t eat BK. Not to mention I really dislike their fries. Not to mention that I bit my tongue so hard that my meal tasted like blood since it didn’t stop bleeding for some time.

Called up ACS, the heating and air guys and lined up a system check for my A/C units, the bottom floor I think is a bit buggy. It doesn’t seem to be cooling very well. They are scheduled for Monday May, 5th, Cinco de Mayo. Sheez, two weeks out.

Found that the issue I’ve been working on is bogus, after getting everything setup I find that the Android Client works fine on SP5/CPR maybe it’s something about iCloud but I don’t know.

Pollen is getting bad, feel it in my throat and sinuses.

Stopped in @ the Shroom for dinner and a couple of beers, Madison, Margaret and Michelle were working tonight. Watching Fox news and found out the Supreme Court uphead the MI law tat repeelied Affirmative action in the MI universities, lets hope other states do the same soon. Only the people how believe in Discrimination so long as you are a Majority are fighting this. I also learned that Lawyers working for the IRS got in excess of 1M in bonuses even though some still owe taxes to the IRS themselves, wonderful.

Home and some time with the daughter, also found out that my DirecTV doesn’t work upstairs any longer, I haven’t tried it in quite some time but geeez. The Guide and things work just no TV or playback of Stored Shows.

There will be two releases in New Holland’s Dragon’s Milk Reserve Series this year. The first ships this week (Mid-April, 2014) – Dragon’s Milk with Toasted Chilies.

Coming this fall, the brewery will release Dragon’s Milk with Raspberries.

“The raspberry Reserve is equally amazing,” says Brett VanderKamp [Brewery President]. “It will definitely appeal to those who love that tangy tartness of raspberries and those who are a little scared of the chilies…”

Look for New Holland Dragon’s Milk with Raspberries in late fall, 2014.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Raspberries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)

Availability: 22oz Bombers. Limited release.

10% ABV

Three Taverns Brewery (Decatur, GA) will be releasing new big bottle on April 25th, 2014 – Quasimodo Quadrupel.

The brewery plans on making this an annual release, celebrating Quasimodo Day each year.  The Belgian-style quadrupel brewed with Belgian candi sugar and naturally carbonated.

Inspired by the best of Belgium, specifically the brothers of the cloth who have devoted their lives to the brewing arts, Quasimodo is a classic, full-bodied quadrupel ale—for us, the measure of brewing perfection. Dark, savory and fruity, yet with a dry, bittersweet finish enhanced by the addition of imported Belgian dark candy sugar, Quasimodo is dangerously drinkable. Re-fermented in the bottle for natural carbonation, it can ring your bells now… or years from now.

Three Taverns Quasimodo will be released with a special bell ring at the brewery in Decatur on April 25th, at 6 pm. Bottles will arrive sometime in May.

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Candi Sugar)

Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft

10% ABV, 30 IBUs

Oskar Blues Brewery (CO/NC) is upping their nitro game with the addition of Oskar Blues Old Chub Nitro Cans.

Old Chub has been available on Nitro taps prior to this release. Nitro cans are a first for the craft beer in a can pioneer. Cans officially launch this week in Denver at the Craft Brewer’s Conference.  National distribution announcement to follow.

OLD CHUB NITRO utilizes an existing widget technology developed by Ball. The Nitro widget is attached to the bottom of the can and is charged with liquid nitrogen during the filling process. The widget releases the nitrogen when the can is opened, liberating the cascading creamy smooth nitro pour.

Oskar Blues first launched nitrogen infused versions of their beers in 2009, thanks to brewer Juice Drapeau. Offerings since have included Dale’s Pale Ale, G’Knight Red Ale, alongside a few small batch offerings.

16oz/4 pack cans launch Friday, April 11th.

Style: Scotch Ale (Nitrogen)

Availability: 16oz Cans

This newest “gotta have it” from Westbrook Brewing in Charleston, SC is Siberian Black Magic Panther.

This imperial stout spent two full years aging in bourbon barrels. If it follows flavor suit alongside the rest of Westbrook’s barrel aged offerings, it’s worth fighting over.

This beer is as hairy as a Siberian…or as a panther. And you better believe it because It gets the black magic from sitting for two years in bourbon barrels. During those years It gathered its rage…a rage this mythical beast of an imperial stout wants to unleash on your taste buds.

Best served at 55 degrees In a tulip or snifter glass. This beer has already been aged for 2 years, don’t cellar It!

Look for Westbrook Siberian Black Magic Panther in 22oz bottles.

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel Aged. Bourbon)

Availability: 22oz Bombers. Limited
