Watched this and I have gotten the bug to buy another helicopter again. I think I’ll try to find parts and fix my old one at least, would like to get the simulator off this site.

From the TriggerTrap site:

It’s bloody annoying, because we thought they were finished already and ready to ship, but when we were doing our last round of checks, we discovered something rather awkward we found a last-minute component fail (the capacitors supplied by the factory for our prototype were the wrong size and shape, because they replaced the parts we specified with different parts).

We need to source and replace the mis-ordered parts with different ones, but we’ll try to make sure this happens quickly, and we’ll keep you posted separately, promise!

Expedition 31 Flight Engineer Don Pettit relayed some information about photographic techniques used to achieve the images: “My star trail images are made by taking a time exposure of about 10 to 15 minutes. However, with modern digital cameras, 30 seconds is about the longest exposure possible, due to electronic detector noise effectively snowing out the image. To achieve the longer exposures I do what many amateur astronomers do. I take multiple 30-second exposures, then ‘stack’ them using imaging software, thus producing the longer exposure.”

Photosmith is almost out, I’m getting a little excited and hope that it will be available this week.

[Hopefully, this is our last post before announcing the final release date.  The app has been uploaded to Apple and is under review. We should be only a few days away now.]

Barred Owl

The classic “eight hooter,” the barred owl lives in old forests and woods along rivers, swamps, and lakes. The nest is typically in a deep hollow in a dead tree but is sometimes in old crow or hawk nests. It feeds on small mammals and invertebrates, frequently sharing a territory with red-shouldered hawks. The call, perhaps the most famous among North American owls, consists of eight sharp hoots, almost always written as who-cooks-for-you who-cooks-for-you-alllll, the last note slurred and dropping. They also give a variety of clucks, whistles, barks, and bill snapping noises, especially when an observer is near the nest. Rarely seen, it is sometimes heard calling during the day in spring. The most frequent daytime call is the last note of the common vocalization, the hoo-alll, given once or twice. Barred owls are more common than most people think but their dependence on old forests and riparian habitat makes them vulnerable.

I’ve heard this owl over in the Greenway, heard the call during the day lately and there are red shouldered hawks there as well. Older forest with lots of dead trees, many with holes that could be used as nests.

[This post is part our ongoing series introducing Photosmith 2 which will be a free update for all users]

In preparing the press stuff for launch we realized that most people have never seen what version 2 looks like unless you bought Jeff’s book.  We’ve talked about it a great deal and offered a few glimpses but we’ve never shown full screenshots.  Well that’s all going to change right now.

I can’t believe I’m here again with yet another blown deadline. It’s bloody embarrassing, is what it is, and I’m absolutely gutted that today is not going to be the shipping date for Triggertrap v1 as promised.

via Further delays in Triggertrap v1 shipping | Triggertrap.

Yeah, this project has been one delay after another. I really think the idea is WONDERFUL and as good or better than any other device like this on the market.

But….. It’s plagued with delays, that’s working with China for ya.

I truly don’t understand why the shield deliveries are delayed by their enclosure issues. Sent them a comment on that, we will see what they say.

The following issues were fixed in the Lightroom 4.1 release candidate 1 (March 29, 2012):

  • Point Curve adjustments made in Lightroom 3 and before have been restored.
  • Lightroom 4 did not properly open external applications when using the “Edit In” functionality.
  • Addressed performance issues in Lightroom 4, particularly when loading GPS track logs, using a secondary monitor, and the controls within the Develop module.
  • Ability to update DNG previews and metadata for more than 100 photos has been restored.
  • This update allows for improved viewing of subfolders and stacks in folders with a large number of photos.
  • It was possible that a layout of a saved book could be lost after quitting Lightroom 4.

Lightroom 4.1 is now available as Release Candidate 2 on Adobe Labs.   The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that this update is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers.  The final release of Lightroom 4.1 may have additional corrections or camera support.

Update 27-April-2012: We’ve reduced memory consumption as much as is possible and gotten performance on iPad 1 to an acceptable level. Our internal testing team has their paws on it now and once we get their blessing we’ll send it out to the entire beta testing crew and submit to Apple.

via Final testing has begun.

Bit warmer this morning as well. Sun peeked out in the afternoon and the wind picked up as well.

Got up a bit slower than normal since I had the third beer and I had also gotten to bed past 11pm.

Messed with LinkedIN for a bit, updating some connections from the old days of NCR.

PhotoSmith is in it’s final stages, only about a month behind schedule, a bit more actually. I’ve been looking forward to this release for about 6 months so the extra month seems to have made this DRAGGGGGGGGG on. I predict that they may have it out by the beginning of May maybe closer to the mid-May timeframe. I will hope for that and therefore if it comes out earlier I’ll be ecstatic.

Went out for a small walk on the Big Creek Greenway about 12:30pm it was mostly overcast still but the sun popped out a few times and I even broke a sweat. A few bugs were out, the same ladybug that was on the bridge yesterday and then a few dragonflies and damselflies. The wind began to pick up a bit after I got back into the office.

Off to the BOTM @ Taco Mac after work. I usually go to the Johns Creek store and today was no different. They are premiering the newest Terrapin beer, the Easy Rider which is a Pale Ale brewed to be a bit lower gravity, ie. about 4.5 ABV. I first stopped in at Pop’s and picked up a couple of Great Divide beers, the 18th Anniversary IPA and a Oak Aged Yeti Stout. The dude, John who had his hip replaced a while back was there again and we talked quite a bit. No one else of interest was there. Had the 2011 Red Brick Vanilla Gorilla before the Easy Rider. Then I drove down to the Tilted Kilt on the way home and had a Drafty Kilt, TiffanyG and Jizzille were there along with Andy what’s his name with the ponytail. I remember now, his last name is pronounced “ki-yay” as in yippie ki-yay (motherfucker!).

Triggertrap Shield for Arduino

Just pre-ordered mine, the site says that they should be ready sometime early-mid April which means right about now. Maybe I’ll get my “invoice” very soon and I can play with this device along with my ‘duino. I’ll possibly need to get some things to allow my StopShot cables to work with this device.
